Read & Write Gold

I am currently working with OCTO to get Read & Write Gold on each of the student laptops (we are almost done). This doesn't mean you have to wait to learn how to use it! Read & Write Gold is a powerful toolbar that allows students to get the most out of internet browsers, Google drive docs and/or word documents. Students will benefit from lessons and practice that allow them to use PARCC accommodation features and good study skills techniques.

Reminder: Get Ready for the PARCC with Read & Write Gold
Read & Write Gold is a customizable toolbar, available for download in all DCPS schools, that provides practice with PARCC-like testing features, such as selecting text, highlighting, pop-up glossary, screen masking, and toggling tools on and off. To support schools in using this resource, the Office of Teaching and Learning is offering professional development sessions on 11/19, 11/20, and 12/4. Educators must register through PD Planner—search for “Read & Write Gold Training.”

Read & Write Gold - Basics

Toolbar Key Features

Read & Write Gold is a program that you can have students run while using chrome, word or google docs. It allows students to highlight, collect highlights and use text-to-speech to name a few features. Please check out the basics tutorials to get yourself comfortable with the tool bar.

This program should now be on all teacher and student devices for DCPS.

In order to view the tutorials you will be asked to sign into a site called Atomic Learning. To do this use your DC.gov e-mail as the username. Also more on Atomic Learning in an upcoming post, but this is also a resources available to you which offers professional tutorials for technology integration and software training.

Without further ado...Read & Write Gold the basics.
